Online STEM Education
With the rise of STEM-related jobs in the marketplace, K12 seeks to include STEM education in its courses to teach students teamwork, creativity, and real-world problem-solving skills for success in school and beyond.
What Is STEM Education?
STEM is an acronym that stands for four academic disciplines: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Rather than teach each area separately, STEM education integrates these disciplines for use in real-life applications.
Our 2016 LEGO STEM(R) contest winner used these disciplines to invent "The Puppet Glove," a mechanized glove meant to assist people with motor function difficulties.
STEM in the K12 Curriculum
All K12 courses in science, and math courses in grades 6–12, contain activities that include elements of STEM. In addition many courses include exercises, labs, and activities that involve the various STEM disciplines, such as:
- Forensic Science
- Environmental Science
- Introduction to Computer Science
- Programming and Logic
- Engineering Fundamentals 1
- Engineering Drawing and Design 1
STEM for Fun: National and School-Based Clubs
K12 national and school-based online STEM clubs* offer students fun opportunities to grow throughout the year. Clubs are available from kindergarten to 12th grade and focus on topics* such as MinecraftTM, LEGO(R), engineering, robotics, software coding, caring for animals, and much more. These teacher-led clubs not only provide enrichment, they also give students the chance to develop positive social connections with peers in their school and across the country大发11选5.
